How Do I Spend My Money?

How To Spend Money

So you have some extra spending cash, probably from birthdays or other holidays or maybe you just found $100 on the sidewalk. Now how are you going to spend it? Let's assume you'll be spending it all on clothes, for the sake of the blog people, after all that is why we are here. Although if you wanted to spend that cool $100 on steak I would not judge you. Anyway, back to the point, how to spend that $100.

$100, Where Should It Go?

First identify where your wardrobe could use a makeover. The basic areas to look at are shoes, pants, and tops. So identify what areas you're diving into. I recommend tops before pants and pants before shoes. Ideally all you should need is two or three pairs of shoes. However, I'm not here to tell you what you should buy, but rather how you should spend that extra cash.

What Do I Do?

So you've identified the problem and you know the solution is buying and resupplying. What do you do now? First off you wait until you have a sale date, never buy full price or you will be a joke on a future post. So you've waited for the sale date and now you ask yourself do I buy ten shirts for $10 each? Maybe buy 5 shirts at $20 each? The answer is going to depend on how often you wear the items. If you have three shirts and you wear a shirt every day I suggest more shirts. same example with pants. Shoes are nothing to worry about as they can typically take more wear and tear.

More Items or Better Quality?

Do I buy more items for less cost or fewer items but a better quality? Again like I said, this depends on your situation. Think about the long term cost of buying shirts that are low quality. If you get a bunch of shirts they may only last you a few weeks due to their poor quality and the fact that you wear them every day. Constant washing, wearing, this can all break down shirts pretty quickly. So if you're looking for my advice, go with the better quality shirts. Over a long period of time, the $20 will be the better buy because they will last longer. Sounds obvious to some of you, but some others may not have realized this. Again it's like a panic button people go through.

I Can't Buy My Item

Can't buy the item you really wanted? Wait. Sit that extra cash aside and wait until you're able to buy it. I cannot stress enough to not hit the panic button and buy something. You want a nice quality sports jacket but you cant seem to find it on sale cheaper than $150? Put $75 aside, spend $25 on socks or undershirts, and in a few days or weeks you can buy the jacket. While you're waiting for the money to buy this item, go online and put it on a wait/wish list that way you can be notified when it is marked down lower.

Conclusion

Spend the money on quality. This strategy doesn't always apply to every situation but in most cases in can work and should work. If you are unable to do this, save the money. Never feel like you are obligated to spend money, thats square one. Do one of these two and congratulations you have just perfectly used $100.
